ABOUT THE ARTISTS

Al Jarreau

“the voice of versatility." - the Chicago Tribune Al Jarreau's innovative musical expressions have made him one of the most exciting and critically-acclaimed performers of our time with six GRAMMY Awards, scores of international music awards and popular accolades worldwide. He is the only vocalist in history to net Grammy Awards in three different categories (jazz, pop, and R&B, respectively). Al has worked with everyone from producers Marcus Miller, Narada Michael Walden and Tommy LiPuma, to musicians including David Sanborn, Joe Sample, Steve Gadd, George Benson and more. Weekend of Jazz is honored to present Al Jarreau in 2010.

Gerald Albright & Kirk Whalum's Sax for Stax Tour

Platinum-selling GRAMMY Nominee Gerald Albright and 8-time GRAMMY Nominee Kirk Whalum are among the most respected, multi-dimensional and sought after saxophonists to straddle the fence of jazz and R&B. The collaboration between these two Saxophone Giants, and close friends, has always been tried and true, as they seem to bring the best out of one another. Their Sax for Stax tour recalls favorite tunes from the legendary Stax records' southern soul sound, as well as original music from these artists. Weekend of Jazz is thrilled to welcome this incredible duo to The Broadmoor.

Madeline Peyroux

Though her vocals are often compared to the legendary Billie Holiday, Madeleine Peyroux has a unique sound all her own. Her 2004 release Careless Love continues to be a staple on the list of iTunes bestselling jazz albums and has sold over one million copies worldwide. Since her debut album in 1996, the eclectic chanteuse has opened for Grammy-winner Sarah McLachlan, recorded the arrangements of many diverse artists from Bob Dylan to Edith Piaf to Hank Williams, and received the 2007 Best International Jazz Artist at the BBC Jazz Awards. Weekend of Jazz is looking forward to bringing the magical voice of Madeleine Peyroux to The Broadmoor.

Spencer Day

Breakout Concord Records vocalist, songwriter and pianist Spencer Day has wandered amid the expansive and diverse landscape of American music, developing an artistic sensibility that borrows from numerous sources: jazz, musical theater, cabaret, soul, folk, traditional pop and contemporary pop are just the tip of the iceberg. The Boston Herald calls Day “the real thing" and his 2009 release Vagabond continues to climb the contemporary jazz radio and sales charts. Spencer Day's vast talent will be on full display during Weekend of Jazz's annual “Fireside Evening" series the first day of the event.

Earl Klugh

GRAMMY-winning guitarist EARL KLUGH's career of more than three decades includes over 200 compositions, more than 30 full-length albums, hosting and producing his own events, work in film and numerous world tours. Klugh's work has earned him 12 career Grammy nominations, the most recent a 2009 Grammy Nomination for his critically-acclaimed release The Spice of Life. The New York Times hails Klugh, “...a guitarist with impeccable technique," and in 2009, Downbeat named Klugh one of “75 of the great jazz, blues and beyond guitarists" as part of the publication's 75th Anniversary. Klugh is looking forward to presenting his first ever “Lightly Latin" show at the 7th Annual Weekend of Jazz.
