Denis Diblasio & Larry McKenna Together And Free In South Philly On Thursday June 19th!

Jazz Bridge and Friends of Hawthorne Park present baritone saxophonist, flutist and scat singer Denis DiBlasio and tenor saxophone legend Larry McKenna for a free concert on Thursday, June 19th. This is the second in a four-concert Jazz in Hawthorne Park series, each featuring our area’s finest jazz artists. Hawthorne Park is at 12th and Catherine Streets, and performances run from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. Further information: jazzbridge.org or hecphilly.org...Bring your lawn chairs!

Denis DiBlasio is a multi-faceted performer, improviser, and arranger who came to national attention by way of his five years as Musical Director of legendary trumpeter Maynard Ferguson’s big band. In addition to his heavy touring schedule, DiBlasio also serves as Jazz Program Director at Rowan University. His published texts, arrangements and compositions are staples in the jazz program libraries of colleges and universities throughout the world. Never afraid to mix in a little entertainment with serious and swinging jazz, this is certain to be a fun night for audiences of all ages. Among those featured with DiBlasio are drummer Jim Miller, organist Bill Schilling and the legend of the tenor saxophone himself, Larry McKenna.

Jazz Bridge, a non-profit organization, is dedicated to assisting professional Greater Philadelphia Metro area jazz and blues musicians and vocalists in times of crisis by providing confidential and caring support in keeping with their personal dignity. The Hawthorne Empowerment Coalition is a non-profit community organization with the mission of improving the quality of life for all residents (approximately 3,500) of the Hawthorne Neighborhood of South Philadelphia.
