In The New York Times last year, Ben Ratliff praised Dafnis Prieto's debut album, About The Monks (Zoho Music, 2005), as some of the best of New York's new Latin-jazz movement, distinguished by complex, jaggedly modern writing, but also by a deep cul-tural literacy of Cuban folklore.
