Turning Point bands dynamic, high-energy contemporary jazz shows infuse jazz with elements of rock, funk, blues, Latin and Greek music. Combined with Chaquicos indelible place in Rock n Roll history as founding member, lead guitarist and song writer for Jefferson Starship- turned award winning, smooth jazz solo artist the concert will bridge generational divides through its musical mass appeal. Smooth jazz concert veterans will recognize Chaquico as an original cast member of Guitars & Saxes all-star tour that has featured Richard Elliot, Warren Hill, Peter White, Jeff Golub and Jeff Kashiwa.
Chaquico is an undeniable guitar wizard who remains at the top of the national charts for a fourth decade and a new millennium, says Patricia Possert, CEO of AZ Entertainment and Events, He has sold over one million records world wide; has triumphed over incredible personal adversity, and is recording a brand new CD, as we speak. Many requests have come in for a return Tucson engagement by international recording artists, Turning Point Band, so we are combining their artistry to produce one magical show.
Turning Point Band leader, Thano Sahnas enthusiastically adds, We're going to play songs that people hope we'll play, Turning Point favorites through the years; with a large part of the program completely improvisational as you'll see when we collaborate with Craig. Were players with diverse musical influences that stuff as many different genres as we can into a contemporary jazz box. When we play live, we try to make that box explode! We will give people a show that they will go home talking about.
It is that attitude that has brought Turning Point to share the stage with some of the greatest names in smooth jazz and R& B, such as: Earth Wind and Fire, James Brown, Boney James, Earl Klugh, Rick Braun, Peter White, Brian Bromberg and others.
The guitar and bass duo of Thano and Demitri Sahnas formed the group to write the music they love - instrumental jazz. The Sahnas brothers were joined by John Herrera (drums & percussion) and Steven Culp (keyboards). The chemistry clicked. They compose and perform together with a simple formula - write great songs that people remember and perform them with passion. Saxophonist Dominic Amatos addition wins over fans with a raucous, entertaining stage show.
The event will draw Baby Boomer and Generation Y fans. To that, legendary Chaquico believes, “What bonds us all together as human beings is the reality that we share the same emotions: love, adventure, mystery, sadness, discovery, loss and the joys of life. My aim is to touch all these bases through the universal language of music. When I look into the audience and see smiles or tears on faces, or see them playing air guitar on the edge of their seats, I can feel that excitement and almost feel my guitar touching their hearts. And my guitar is my voice."
To ensure the music legacy reaches a new generation, children ages 12 and under will be admitted free. Says Possert, “People are experiencing a difficult time right now and we want to bring them together to share in one of lifes greatest joys: the gift of music and be inspired by the miraculous story of Craig Chaquicos triumph over a devastating childhood car crash. The first thing I asked for after I woke up from three days of cerebral concussion was for my acoustic guitar," says Chaquico, based on returning the gift of music given to him when he was 12 years old.
Recovering from broken arms, hands, wrist, foot, ankle and leg suffered by a drunk driver. Doctors encouraged him to play guitar while confined to wheelchair, crutches and corrective shoes to help recover from his injuries through music. The tune, “E-lizabeth's Song," was named for the doctor who brought him through that difficult time.
