Clear Channel Radio Has Efficiently Eliminated Your Position...

Ah, that authentic, local radio flavor, as only a highly-efficient programming restrategization can deliver. We're not sure exactly what the retooled strategy is, though we do know that Clear Channel Radio is now chopping hundreds of station positions, according to early estimates. “It looks like a huge rank-and-file chop across radio stations' personel," one source told Digital Music News on Wednesday.

It seems like one of those dreary days, or weeks. “They simply told me that programming would be delivered in a different manner, eliminating the need for my position," one ex-staffer told radio-focused publication All Access.

These are happening in mostly smaller and midsized radio markets, according to multiple reports. That's bad news for those affected by the chops, though Clear Channel says everyone (mostly) wins. “The new strategy leverages Clear Channel Radio's unmatched resources to serve our local listeners, advertisers and communities better—there will be more localization, not less," the conglomerate offered in a statement. “With this new strategy, we'll also generate higher ratings for our advertisers and marketing partners and give our best people bigger roles," the station relayed.

The updated approach was based on the “most efficient and effective" stations, a concept that is now being replicated and may include broader syndication of personalities like Ryan Seacrest. And with that, names of the right-sized are already being compiled on All Access and FMQB.
