On Friday, March 21st, family, friends, and fans will gather at Birdland to celebrate the 85th birthday of the legendary Marian McPartland. Hosting the eventful night will be ABC News anchor Peter Jennings. Honoring the timeless pianist will be such luminaries as Karrin Allyson, Bill Charlap, Ravi Coltrane, Nnenna Freelon, Jim Hall, Curtis Stigers, Dr. Billy Taylor, Clark Terry, George Wein, Phil Woods, and many others. Comedian Alan King will also make an appearance. Marian will perform sets with two different rhythm sections: bassist Bill Crow and drummer Joe Morello, and bassist Gary Mazzaroppi and drummer Glenn Davis. Portions of the show will be taped for broadcast on NPR in June and will be hosted by Charles Osgood, as part of NPR
