Jazz Bridge Second Wednesdays Concert Series in Center City presents jazz vocalist Lauren Lark, at the Lutheran Church of the Holy Communion (Chestnut Street) on Wednesday, April 8. Tickets are $10, $5 for students, and are available only at the door. Show time is 7:30. Information: 215-517-8337.

This performance, and all Jazz Bridge concerts being held in the month of April, are a part of the City of Philadelphia’s “Jazz Appreciation Month” celebration, sponsored by “Creative Philadelphia,” within the City of Philadelphia’s Office of Arts, Culture and the Creative Economy.

One of vocalist Lauren Lark’s missions is to bring the jazz singing of the 1940s and 1950s into the 21st Century, whether applied to jazz or to R & B. Just a glance at the credits of this native Philadelphian proves that she is succeeding on a regional, national and international level. After some early study and local work with the likes of J.D. Walter, Gerald Veasley and Christian McBride, Lark hit the national stage with Nnenna Freelon and Dave Koz at the 2001 Grammy Awards Nominee Party, and also as a member of the National Grammy Choir in Los Angeles. From there, she toured with Japan’s chart-topping musical hip-hop artist— Steph Pockets— in Tokyo, Fukuoka, Nagasaki and the Blue Note in Nagoya and Osaka. Stateside, Lauren Lark has been a featured performer at the Philadelphia Film Festival several times, as well as the Cape May Jazz Festival, Welcome America Parade, The Rehoboth Beach Autumn Jazz Festival, The Coltrane Jazz Festival, and the Swedesboro Jazz Festival. She continues to perform locally with the Hoppin' John Orchestra and The Earl Phillips Big Band.

Jazz Bridge, an award-winning nonprofit dedicated to assisting Greater Philadelphia Metro area jazz and blues musicians and vocalists in times of crisis, sponsors these neighborhood concerts throughout the region to keep the sound of Philadelphia alive.
