CBS to Relaunch mp3.com as Indie Music Companion Site to Last.FM

MP3.com is reportedly being relaunched at the end of this month as a site for unsigned and independent music. CBS acquired the site, launched in 1997 by Michael Robertson, when it bought CNET in 2008; and now plans to leverage it alongside its Last.fm online music property.

MP3.com “is an interesting brand as it has global recognition and still gets around 3m unique visits on a monthly basis," CBS Interactive Music Group president David Goodman told Music Week. “It's mainly from search, as when people look for free music online, 'MP3.com' comes up. We believe there is a lot of opportunity to refresh it."

Mp3.com will reported re-launch with 1 million tracks from new and unsigned acts from the Last.fm Music Manager which enables artists to upload their music to Last.fm Radio.
