Saxophonist Carl Clements Presents 'A Different Light' Out May 23, 2024

A Different Light treats the listener to an inspiring musical journey with deeply interactive interpretations of the evocatively eclectic compositions, and superb soloistic, melodic, and supportive contributions by all. Carl’s deep roots in jazz, North Indian, and Latin American music, and various influences from around the world merge into a powerfully original musical voice. Combined with the exceptional musicality of all the band members, this is an album not to be missed.

About the Band

Carl Clements performs in a wide range of styles around the world and is featured on numerous recordings including two CDs of his original compositions for jazz quartet, nine CDs with guitarist Kevin Kastning, four CDs with Crosscurrent, the Global Music Award-winning album Time Travel by the Indica Project, and many others. He plays saxophones, flutes, and North Indian bansuri. He received a PhD from the CUNY Graduate Center, an MFA from CalArts, and a BM from the Berklee College of Music, and is currently teaching at Amherst College.

Chase Morrin is a pianist, composer, and educator known for his diverse musical range spanning jazz, classical, folkloric, and popular traditions. His music is focused on culturally collaborative projects and humanitarian missions, creating communal spaces for the arts. He earned a BS from Harvard, an MM from the New England Conservatory and Berklee College. He has received awards from ASCAP and DownBeat , among others, and teaches at Berklee College.

Bruno Råberg is an internationally renowned bassist and composer. He has made six recordings as a leader, about 30 as a sideman, and has performed with numerous world-class artists. Tours have taken Råberg throughout Europe, the U.S., Asia, Africa, and Central America, and to jazz festivals such as Pori, Umbria, Monterey, Nancy, Bologna, Graz, Stockholm, Boston, and Cape Town. He leads the Lifelines Quartet with Chris Cheek, Ben Monder, and Ted Poor.

Gen Yoshimura is a versatile drummer/composer/educator proficient in many genres including a wide array of Latin styles and is in high demand in the Boston music scene. He earned a BM from Berklee College and an MM from the Longy School of Music. He teaches ensembles and private instruction at New England Conservatory Preparatory Program and Continuing Education Program, and has led clinics and masterclasses at prestigious institutions around the world.
