Benny Powell will be featured in a special musical performance billed as the “Battle of the Bones" with fellow trombonists Wycliffe Gordon and Art Baron, as part of the Frankie 95 Birthday Festival on the closing night of the Memorial Day weekend extravaganza being held in New York City May 21 - 25.

Having taken center stage as headline performer; composer; educator and jazz advocate, many believe he is receiving well-deserved recognition for his contributions to the jazz community. Always the consummate professional, Powell says he enjoys performing for audiences.

The assembled trio, along with the Gordon's quartet will be joined by thousands of Swing dancers, musicians, singers and others all converging on NY for an anticipated spectacular weeklong schedule of planned events and festivities. They added they are thrilled to confirm that live music will be a cornerstone of all evening and late night dances. The roster includes various competitions, tribute performances y award-winning dance troupes, panel discussions, workshops, video presentations, local tours, and much more!

Due to the untimely loss of the of Lindy Hop King, plans for his elaborate, five-Day Celebration will instead commemorate the life of the late Frankie Manning Jr. “Frankie would have wanted us to continue to celebrate his life, and the dance and music that he loved so well. Frankie's spirit is definitely still here with us," said Jelly Roll Productions co-founder David Jacoby of the inspirational dance legend and teacher, he considered his friend and mentor.

Registration for the festival has been extended until Wednesday, May 13, with free and low-cost activities available for dance enthusiasts, jazz music lovers and the general public.
