The road is so full of desperate food runs it's laughable, and so many end at places like McDonald's. Sound familiar? Well, there's now an app to solve that problemthat is, if you view Chicken McNuggets and a McFlurry as a problem.
Which these guys definitely do. As a touring band, you see those golden arches off the side of the highway and it's extremely convenient and cheap to buy food from companies you know exploit people, animals, and promote unsustainable farming monocultures," said Eytan Oren, co-creator of the inBloom app. The question I started asking is 'how do you make it just as easy and affordable to find healthier alternatives?'"
The location-based appwhich debuts next weekbasically scouts out all sorts of alternative, footprint-friendly spots in 'foreign touring territory.' The list includes restaurants, grocery stores, farmer's markets, green hotels, and retail businesses powered by renewable energy.
And who else is behind this thing? Andy Ross, guitarist for OK Go, among other hats. Oren is the lead singer for Eytan & The Embassy, and also heads the Musician's Energy Conservation Alliance (MECA), which is focused on environmentally-friendly touring.
Actually, there are two versions on the waya musician-focused version for MECA members due October 22nd, and a broader version for everyone that launches November 15th.
