Back Alley Players Live at the Sugar Bar with Special Appearance by Piano Great David Bennett Cohen

New York, NY—The Back Alley Players perform live every Tuesday night at 8:00 PM at Ashford & Simpson's legendary Sugar Bar in NYC as the house band in its weekly Tuesday night “Nuttin' But the Blues" series hosted by Nick Ashford of Ashford and Simpson which frequently features multiple guests. Yet on Tuesday, December 14th, 2010, sitting in with the band will be special guest David Bennett Cohen, the original pianist for Country Joe and the Fish and a dynamic live performer and respected music educator. So if you've been curious about the state of America's authentic 'roots' music lately and been wondering where its contemporary practitioners are, well look no further, because here comes the Back Alley Players! This tight and tasteful ensemble is creating a blues for the 21st century which is aptly demonstrated on their new CD Beyond the Blues.

“Great guitar work and a locked in rhythm section . . . this has been in heavy rotation on my show." —Robert Lynn KSPQ-FM

This dynamic New York City band is made up of seasoned musical pros from a variety of musical backgrounds from Jazz and Funk, to Hip-Hop and R&B. But make no mistake, the Back Alley Players are playing a blues for the new century that draws on many of the disparate elements of traditional blues which are rarely heard in one setting.

“The baddest band to bring you Nuttin' But the Blues" —Nick Ashford of Ashford and Simpson

Don't miss this rare opportunity to catch a live performance by the Back Alley Players and one of the pioneers of the electric keyboard, David Bennett Cohen.

“Mr. Cohen... [is] a certifiably smokin' barrel house rumba boogie-woogie pianist in the James Booker/Professor Longhair/Dr. John vein."—James Lein for the CMJ New Music Report
