The Austin Jazz Workshop a nonprofit group of professional musicians dedicated to jazz performance and education in Austin public schools, is proud to release its fifth compact disc recording, Mystery Note: Austin Jazz Workshop plays Rahsaan Roland Kirk.

The disc features Alex Coke and Michael Melinger on flutes and saxophones, Ron Westray on trombone, Floyd Domino on piano, Michael Stevens on bass, and Rob Kazenel on drums.

The sextet plays compositions written or popularized by the great wind player, Rahsaan Roland Kirk. Despite his blindness from the age of two, Kirk astonished audiences around the world with his musical prowess.

Mystery Note was recorded before a live audience at the Texas School for the Blind in May 2009. Its release follows the conclusion of the AJW's Bright Moments tour, which visited 118 public school campuses in central Texas.

A CD-Release Party for Mystery Note will be held at The Elephant Room, 315 Congress Avenue, Austin, Texas on Thursday October 15th from 9:30 p.m. to 1:30 a.m.

Previous AJW releases include “Take to the Sky", “Basin Street Stomp", “Anything Goes" and “Big Boss Tenor."

All AJW CD sales raise money for the school outreach project.
