ArtistShare marks its 10-year anniversary
On October 15, 2013 ArtistShare celebrates its 10-year anniversary. As we take a moment to look back on 10 years of fan-funded projects, we take pride in ArtistShare’s accomplishments as the pioneer of the crowdfunding movement. With the current, ever-growing popularity of crowdfunding, the first decade in the life of ArtistShare represents an important milestone in the history of the fan-funded business model.
About ArtistShare: Founded in 2001 by guitarist and producer Brian Camelio, ArtistShare was the first fan-funded internet platform. ArtistShare’s mission is to connect artists with fans in order to support the creation of new artistic works. ArtistShare’s accolades thus far include 6 GRAMMY awards and 18 GRAMMY nominations. The ArtistShare roster includes some of today’s most prestigious artists including Pulitzer Prize and Oscar nominated writers, Guggenheim fellowship recipients, GRAMMY winners, and NEA Jazz Masters.
ArtistShare and the Grammys
In 2001, Maria Schneider launched Concert in the Garden, the first fan-funded album to win a GRAMMY. Since then, ArtistShare has continued to release successful, highly acclaimed works recognized by the GRAMMY society. We are pleased to announce that the following albums have been submitted in the 56th Annual GRAMMY Awards: “Winter Morning Walks" by Maria Schneider and Dawn Upshaw for Album of the Year, Best Classical Vocal Solo ("Winter Morning Walks"), Best Contemporary Classical Composition ("Winter Morning Walks"), and Best Recording Package; “Jim Hall: Live! Vol. 2-4" by Jim Hall for Best historical Album, and “Live at Birdland" for Best Jazz Instrumental Album; “Newport Jazz: Gala!" for Best Jazz Instrumental Album, and Best Traditional R&B Performance, Best Instrumental Arrangement Accompanying Vocalist, (“I’m In Love Again” by Dianne Reeves); and “Touchstone" by Ariel Pocock for Best New Artist and Best Jazz Vocal Album.

ArtistShare and Blue Note: A Historic Partnership
This year, ArtistShare announced a groundbreaking partnership with Blue Note Records, creating the new joint label: Blue Note/ArtistShare. The Blue Note/ArtistShare collaboration was forged by Brian Camelio, Bruce Lundvall, and Don Was, President of Blue Note Records. This new joint label provides an additional channel for Blue Note to help nurture and promote up-and-coming young jazz artists, while creating a platform that offers a unique opportunity for fans to become directly involved with the creation of new music by tomorrow's jazz stars. In addition to representing ArtistShare's 10th Anniversary, 2013 marks Blue Note Records' 75th Anniversary and the birth year of the Blue Note/ArtistShare partnership. Fabian Almazan's upcoming CD Rhizome will be the first album released under the new Blue Note/ArtistShare record label.
