The free outdoor program of the 30th edition of the Festival International de Jazz de Montreal 30 years at the heart of jazz

Montreal, Monday, June 8, 2009 - For its 30th birthday, the Festival International de Jazz de Montral, presented by General Motors of Canada in collaboration with Rio Tinto Alcan, is giving out the presents! Today, the Festival unveils its extraordinary outdoor program, jam-packed with surprises and special gifts to light up an exceptional edition. From June 30 to July 12, Montreal will move and groove to the rhythms of jazz and its musical cousins and enjoy original activities, in an event conceived by a veteran orgazination with one idea in mind: to deliver a historic 30th edition! For 13 days, while we throw a “house-warming party” in the brand-new Maison du Festival Rio Tinto Alcan and the Place des Festivals, Canada’s cultural metropolis will be the headquarters of all musical passions-and what a headquarters!

Some 3,000 musicians hailing from 30 countries make this their port-of-call every year. This summer, they’ll not only take part in an exceptional program of 600 concerts, but also join Montrealers and 250,000 tourists from five continents in discovering a Festival with whole new look. On June 30, we’ll unwrap the most beautiful gift of this 30th edition, the Maison du Festival Rio Tinto Alcan, a year-round HQ for jazz, a nerve centre for the Festival-where you’ll now find the Festival pressroom-and an important landmark for the Quartier des spectacles. And inside, yet another jewel: L’Astral, sponsored by Astral Media, an ideal new venue for live concerts and their dissemination, offering a full slate of summer festival programming before opening its regular programming in September. Finally, after 30 years, the Festival finally has a home and can offer activities all year long!

Any other presents? How about two extra days to celebrate your love of music; not three, but five free outdoor mega-events, in addition to the three free outdoor superconcerts specially created for the 30th; a new daily Parade; new stage locations... So whether you come for the people-watching, to bring the kids to the Little School of Jazz, find a soulmate in the brand-new Place des Festivals, exalt your spirit in the Galerie, rediscover the legends or discover the newcomers of the musical scene, there will be something to suit every taste and desire.

Finally, we present one last treat we just couldn’t allow to slip past unnoticed: a stellar new website, redesigned from A to Z especially for the 30th. Entirely re-conceived, user-friendly and incredibly practical, montrealjazzfest.com offers 30 years of passion with the click of a mouse, a dynamic reference source for music fans who enjoy evolved web content. You’ll find more video and music clips, more information on the artists, content featuring music news, access to archives from previous Festival editions and an improved research tool for consulting the concert program. It’s a top-flight web destination for all online music aficionados!
