Revered Festival Music to the Ears of NW Jazz Lovers
26th Annual Mt. Hood Jazz Festival - August 3rd & 4th
High Powered Jazz Fest offers Fun for the Whole Family
Calling all jazz lovers! Mark your calendars. The 26th Annual Mt. Hood Jazz Festival presented by Persimmon Development Group happens August 3rd and 4th. The Festival is one of the most revered summer jazz fests in the Northwest and is sure to captivate all ages.
With a diverse line-up that includes both scorching national heavyweights and local all stars, this year's festival aims at bringing together jazz's past, present and future. It also adds a fun, affordable reason to bring the whole family out for a weekend of live music and culture.
The nation's premier tribute to one of jazz's most respected guitarists, Dorado Schmitt and the Django Reinhardt Festival All-Stars with special guest Harry Allen head up a two-day docket that boasts some of the leading figures in jazz today--celebrated bassist Christian McBride & the Christian McBride Band, Herbie Hancock's long-time guitarist Lionel Loueke, trumpeter and Marsalis protg Nicholas Payton Quintet, acclaimed singers Paula West, the River City's own Rebecca Kilgore with the PDXV Jazz Quintet, as well as Patrick Lamb and Bobby Torres.
Together with the many talented local jazz artists, the Festival High School All-Star Band, Mt. Hood Community College Jazz Band and rip-roaring jazz jams (including and Gypsy jazz jam Friday night at the Main St. Ale House), this year's festival represents the breadth the genre has to offer and some of the best music this side of the Mississippi.
The Main Stage is located outdoors in the convenient, revitalized heart of Historic Downtown Gresham at the future site of the Center for the Arts. In addition, the festival will feature NW beers and wines as well as a variety of vendors serving up everything from fresh salmon, BBQ ribs and burgers to ice cream and espresso. There will also be games and activities for the kids (and adults). Between sets wander freely exploring the array of sights, sounds and shopping the area has to offer - all within walking distance!
Be sure to enjoy downtown restaurants with live music performances and The Spirit of Django Gypsy Jazz Jam Session- Friday night after the festival at the Main Street Ale House, featuring many of Oregon's top players in the Django tradition including Eddie Parente (violin), James Mason (violin), Bryan Darby (guitar), David Stassens (guitar), Michael Papillo (bass), Craig Snazelle (bass), Paul Evans (melodica, soprano sax), David Evans (clarinet) and Joseph Kim.
