Top Portuguese Winery Sponsors the Clean Feed Jazz Festival in NYC

PENAFIEL, PORTUGAL -- During this year’s Clean Feed Festival NYC IV (September 16-20), guests will have something extra to jazz about – an authentic taste of Portugal in the form of the unique wine called Vinho Verde.

Aveleda, one of Portugal’s top wineries known for its award-winning Vinho Verde wines, will sponsor this year’s five-day-long jazz and improvised music event, donating more than 120 bottles of Quinta da Aveleda Vinho Verde to the festival. Proceeds from wine sales will help fray organizing costs.

In its fourth year, the Clean Feed Festival will take place at the Cornelia Connelly Center, a non-profit organization providing girls from low-income families with an educational foundation, in New York City and will showcase a diverse smorgasbord of prolific performances by 11 different musicians and groups from around the world.

“Fine wine and fine music go hand in hand, and we are truly proud to support such a wonderful cultural and musical event as Clean Feed,” says Antnio Guedes, fourth generation descendant of Aveleda’s founder and current CEO of Aveleda estate and winery. “In addition, we are honored at the opportunity of introducing more Americans to the unique, refreshing taste of Portuguese Vinho Verde.”

Quinta da Aveleda Vinho Verde 2008, which will be served at the event, was awarded 90 points in the Fall 2009 issue of Wine & Spirits Magazine. The last three vintages of Aveleda’s Quinta da Aveleda Vinho Verde were all highly scored (90 and 92 points) and add to a long list of international medals and top ratings, an evidence of the consistent quality of Aveleda’s wines.

“We are excited to add Aveleda as a top sponsor of Clean Feed Fest NY, and we look forward to utilizing its fine Vinho Verde wines to offer festival guests a broader taste of Portugal,” Pedro Costa, Artistic Director of Clean Feed.

About Aveleda

Founded in 1671, Aveleda is a family-owned winery with more than 300 years of winemaking tradition. Preserving its familial character, Aveleda has evolved and developed its winemaking by adapting to market demands and investing in new technologies at every step of the way. A short walk through the Quinta da Aveleda estate shows that the search for perfection and love for winemaking is a natural value for the Guedes family. It has been so for over three centuries and we work hard to keep the tradition of innovating, just like our ancestors did. Online at Aveleda.pt and Aveleda.PortugalWines.Org Aveleda is a member of Portugal Wines, a private marketing body that represents and promotes top Portuguese wine producers in the U.S.

About Clean Feed Festival IV

Clean Feed Festival is an annual jazz festival organized by the Portuguese Jazz recording company Clean Feed Records. This year will be the IV Edition and it will happen from Sept 16th to the 20th at the Cornelia Connelly Center in Manhattan, New York (Cornelia Connelly Center: 220 East 4th street, New York). The program features 11 different groups from New York City and from around the world.

About Vinho Verde

Vinho Verde (literally translates to “Green wine”) is a Portuguese wine that is unique in the world. It is not actually green – the name refers to the fact that it’s consumed when the wine is young, usually within 1 year –and can be red, white or ros. White Vinho Verde wines are typically light and fresh and usually feature fruity and floral aromas as well as a lemon or straw color. With low alcohol content of 9% to 12% and natural acidity, Vinho Verde also features slight carbonation that’s enough to tickle your throat but not enough to be considered a sparkling wine.

About the Cornelia Connelly Center

The mission of the Cornelia Connelly Center is to give girls from low-income families a uniquely effective educational foundation, encompassing a comprehensive middle school program, strong support through high school, planning for higher education, and a vibrant alumnae community, which together enable Connelly students to fulfill their potential and achieve productive roles in society.
