Zita Foster is a talented and versatile singer whose repertoire ranges from jazz/pop standards and show tunes to opera arias and Hungarian folk songs. Zita sings from the heart and infuses each song with a subtle dramatic reading. Her voice is pure, yet expressive, and her interpretations are unique and colorful. Audiences are easily mesmerized by her graceful, unpretentious stage presence. She performs at a variety of venues in both North and South Carolina including shows, concerts, clubs, restaurants, weddings, private functions, etc... Zita came to America from Hungary in 2002. She first began performing for her family (with her sisters, Gréta and Betty) when they were children. She has been singing ever since her father placed a microphone in her hand. Her mother taught her opera arias and she grew up listening to an eclectic mix of American pop, opera, operettas, and Hungarian pop and folk songs.
When she was thirteen years old, she won her hometown’s Folk Song Competition. She majored in Theatre and sang in alternative rock bands in High School. After High School, she performed leading roles in musicals. During and after college she sang at various resort hotels and restaurants. There she sang the variety of song styles that she loves to enthusiastic audiences.
Zita graduated from Teacher’s Training College in Hungary and from the University of North Carolina-Charlotte receiving degrees in Education (specializing in Music Education), Music, and Psychology. She studied voice with Jane Dillard, and jazz vocal styling and technique with John Valerio. She is currently collaborating with John Valerio on an album of contemporary arrangements of Hungarian folk songs for publication and a CD recording. Also in the works is the release of her first jazz CD album with ViVadagio Records in 2009.
