Zack Shubert
Zack Shubert is a jazz pianist and composer who has already begun to make a substantial impact on the NYC jazz scene where he is currently based. Originally from the California Bay Area, he was a prodigy from an early age, and has been formally studying piano and music since the age of 5, developing a serious interest, deep passion, and profound reverence for jazz and Black American Music by the age of 8 years old. In addition to his foundation as a jazz musician, he carries a sagacious and intimate love for the Western classical canon, both its linguistic precedent, as well as its technical and musical axioms. He is always attempting to amalgamate both jazz and classical in his playing, as well as approach to composing and teaching. His Love and reverence for music intensely permeates his attitude towards both music and the broader scope of life. He considers music to be an organic entity, and treats it with such integrity and consideration. He values the Good that art can bring, and hopes to allow others to explore their own beauty by allowing art to exist freely in the world. His intense life experience is evident, as well as his matured approach to education and teaching. In high school, he fell ill with a severe autoimmune condition, as well as injuries to his nerves that forced him to withdraw from performing for many years, eventually undergoing several operations to help recover and return to the bandstand.Zack has received 10 Downbeat awards, and in 2017 he was featured on the cover of the Student Music Awards issue. In high school, he began touring internationally with groups such as the Next Generation Jazz Orchestra and the SFJAZZ and CJC conglomerate groups. A 2 time YoungArts winner and Vail Jazz Workshop honorary alumni, , Zack has had the opportunity to perform at The Monterey Jazz Festival, as well as The Noto Jazz festival (Japan), and venues including SFJAZZ, Yoshi’s in Oakland CA, and regularly performs at NYC staples such as Smalls jazz club, Mezzrow, Ornithology, and more.
