Uroš Spasojević, bassist and composer, was born in 1985 in the city of Valjevo, Republic of Serbia. Until now, he has released five albums of his original compositions: "Portrait in Bass" (2014), "Story on Bass" (2015) that received high praises in the United States of America, most prominently, in the reviews of a music journalist and a writer Walter Kolosky and the music critics of a leading world fusion music brand and record label "Abstractlogix" who graded this album 4.5 out of 5 stars. Album "Third View" (2016) featured special guests Scott Kinsey, who was mixing and mastering engineer, saxophonist Bob Reynolds and guitarist Nir Felder. In 2016, this album was included in the top 5 most interesting Serbian jazz records, as selected by the editor of broadcasting station Radio Novi Sad, and in the top 15 albums recommended by the owner of the American record label Moonjune Records. His fourth album, Expressions (2017) is a solo bass project. Uroš’s fifth album "V", recorded in cooperation with a pianist Bojan Marjanović, was published in December 2018 by the Norwegian record label "Amp Music & Records". Uroš is committed to the idea that the bass guitar can be a leading melodic and solo instrument capable of viable polyphony and improvisational logic that includes very frequent experiments using effects. His basic idea is to create unconventional approach to bass playing that provides a different light on the instrument’s interesting and diverse sounds. Yet, the emphasis of this concept and music is on melody, which is still the most important aspect of all.
"Uros is proving himself to be a skilled
improviser and writer. It is clear that his
music is reflective,
searching, and honest.
" ...Regardless of the story being told
throughout Story on Bass, Spasojevic is able
to sing melodies
through his instrument like very few bass
players can. Whether he is on his own, or
using drums and
piano to cover rhythm and harmony,
Spasojevic’s sense of melody is stunning."
Abstractlogix stuff
"... it is Spasojevic’s solo forays that give
evidence to something quite different. His
melodies are deep
and moving and he obtains unique sounds
through the use of many special effects
mustered from his
strings. These aren’t dorky sound-effects
pulled-off for the purposes of showing off.
Rather, they are
used to create sound fields of emotion. You
need to stop what you are doing to pay close
attention. "
