The Sirkis/Bialas International Quartet: Come to Me

Read "Come to Me" reviewed by Angelo Leonardi

The Sirkis/Bialas International Quartet: Come To Me

Read "Come To Me" reviewed by Budd Kopman

Drummer/composer Asaf Sirkis, whose last album from 2013 was the highly acclaimed Shepherd's Stories is back with new group, co-led by the extraordinary Polish vocalist, composer and poet Sylwia Bialas. The album consists of ten journeys, they are much more than tracks, which contain many moments of intense yearning, sorrow, happiness and love. The compositional credits are shared equally by Sirkis and Bialas, with Bialas also contributing five poems in Polish, and while this music is ...

The Sirkis/Bialas International Quartet: Come To Me

Read "Come To Me" reviewed by Mark Sullivan

The Sirkis/Bialas International Quartet demonstrates how well a vocalist can work as the featured soloist in a quartet. Even better, they make you forget the instrumentation in the beauty and joy of the music they make. The group truly deserves the “International" part of their name. Drummer Asaf Sirkis is an Israeli living in England; vocalist Sylwia Bialas is a Pole living in Germany; keyboardist Frank Harrison is English; and bassist Patrick Bettison is from the United States.

The Sirkis/Bialas International Quartet: Come To Me

Read "Come To Me" reviewed by Bruce Lindsay

Led by drummer Asaf Sirkis and vocalist Sylwia Bialas, the International Quartet is completed by pianist Frank Harrison (a long-time collaborator with Sirkis in Gilad Atzmon's Orient House Ensemble) and bassist Pat Bettison. Come To Me is the band's debut, a collection of original compositions by Sirkis and Białas that heralds the arrival of a strong and original writing partnership as well as a musically inventive quartet. The International Quartet is a genuinely multinational ensemble: Sirkis was born ...

The Sirkis/Bialas International Quartet: Come To Me

Read "Come To Me" reviewed by Roger Farbey

Drummer Asaf Sirkis co-leads this international group along with Polish singer Sywia Bialas (who actually resides in Germany) and two British musicians, Frank Harrison and Patrick Bettison. Sirkis has been making waves on the jazz scene over the past few years, playing with the likes of Larry Coryell and Tim Garland. Five of the tracks are necessarily defined by the Polish lyrics written and sung by Bialas and to the unwary, the opener, “Come To Me" might initially ...
