Sylvan De La Cruz

Sylvan De La Cruz is a jazz-pop singer/songwriter from Los Angeles. He writes songs in the tradition of the Gershwins, and Cole Porter, and sings them in a style influenced as much by Ella Fitzgerald, as by Nat King Cole and Frank Sinatra. Though his music is rooted in the classic pop standard style, it also has rich pop elements, and a contemporary feel.

Sylvan writes songs about life in the City of Angels. Whether it’s a song about one of LA’s vibrant neighborhoods, or one that is playfully romantic, or one that expresses loneliness and the heart’s yearning desire for love, Sylvan De La Cruz’ music is informed by an awareness of life in the modern world, that everyone can relate to.

He began writing jazz based show tunes in 2013 for a nightclub show he produced called The Hollywood Cabaret. When a friend and venue owner asked him to write a cabaret show for his theater in downtown LA, that set off a series of events that changed the course of his life. He immediately began writing show tunes and pop standard-like songs for the show.

Though the show eventually fell through, Sylvan saw something positive. The songs that he wrote for the show were a personal revelation that proved to him that he could craft beautiful songs in the tradition of the Great American Songbook. At this time, he also began playing piano and studying music theory so intensely, that he put his social life on hold for two years.

He then began working with a producer in Studio City, CA, on what was to become his debut EP, which will be released on The Hollywood Cabaret Music label in January 2018.
