Stephan Raidl
Stephan Raidl, acoustic bass player, producer and live electronic artist, is Amsterdam based and plays internationally with different formations. For more than 16 years he has studied classical, jazz, live electronics and nonwestern music, mostly at the Conservatory of Amsterdam. He is playing in and producing the Ahaddaf Quartet for the past 4 years. He performs frequently in Jazz formations in the Amsterdam area and has played on 5 continents with symphonic orchestras, small ensembles and played for several album recordings, and performs frequently in Jazz formations in the Amsterdam Area. Holding a BA in Jazz and a MA in Live Electronics from the CvA he is an innovative player in the Amsterdam scene through composing music, producing projects and designing new hardware and software for double bass. He recently made a custom midi controller for Lucas Dols. Having shared stages with Burton Greene, Ramon Valle, Izaline Calister, Samira Kadiri, Nabil Akbib, Hans Leeuw, Pierre Alexandre Tremblay, Diemo Schwarz, Jos Zwaanenburg, John Richards, Claudius Falk, Pierre Bastien he has gained great insight in improvisation from masters of older generations. His idols in Jazz are Scott LaFaro, Eddie Gomez, Ron Carter, Charlie Haden, NHØP, Charles Mingus, Renaud Garcia-Fonds, Jimmy Blanton, Ray Brown, Larry Grenadier, and many more. He studied with Ruud Ouwehand, Ernst Glerum, Arnold Dooyeweerd and Frans van der Hoeven.
