Sean Lennon

Sean Ono Lennon was born on October 9, 1975, in New York City, to John Lennon and Yoko Ono. As the son of two iconic figures in music and activism, Sean grew up surrounded by creativity and social consciousness. His early years were marked by tragedy when his father, John Lennon, was tragically assassinated in 1980.

Despite the immense shadow cast by his parents' fame, Sean developed his own passion for music and art. He learned to play multiple instruments, including guitar, piano, and drums, and began writing and recording his own music at a young age.

In 1998, Sean released his debut album, "Into the Sun," which showcased his eclectic musical style and songwriting talent. He continued to release solo albums and collaborate with other artists over the years, exploring various genres ranging from folk and rock to electronic and experimental music.

In addition to his music career, Sean Ono Lennon has been involved in activism and social causes, often advocating for peace and environmental sustainability, echoing the values championed by his parents. He's also occasionally worked as an actor, appearing in films and TV shows.

Throughout his life, Sean has navigated the complexities of being the son of two cultural icons while carving out his own identity as an artist and activist. His unique perspective and creative talent have earned him respect in the music industry and beyond.

I Dischi del 2024 secondo Ludovico Granvassu

Read "I Dischi del 2024 secondo Ludovico Granvassu" reviewed by Ludovico Granvassu

Ludovico Granvassu's Garden of Jazzy Delights 2024

Have you noticed how many “best of the year" listicles start with an apologetic preamble ("these are not necessarily 'the best albums of the year' but 'my favorites';" “it's all subjective;" “tomorrow I might have chosen different titles;" “I could only select ten albums" etc.)? Those disclaimers channel the writer's discomfort of having to summarize a vast artistic ecosystem by selecting a “fateful ten" out of thousands of albums, a choice that, supposedly, should provide readers with a balanced, fair, ...

Sean Ono Lennon: Asterisms

Read "Sean Ono Lennon: Asterisms" reviewed by Ludovico Granvassu

Among the eagerly-awaited new releases is Sean Ono Lennon's Asterisms (Tzadik Records, 2024). When I first saw the project at The Stone in early October 2022 I was immediately struck by the enormous potential of the band and their music. Asterisms hovers over many genres and defies them all as its own thing, in a post-Bitches Brew kind of way. Plus, the band is an all-star avant-minded assemblage featuring Yuka Honda (electronics), Michael Leonhart (trumpet), Joao Nogueira (Wurlitzer), ...

Action Figure Party: Action Figure Party

Read "Action Figure Party" reviewed by Mike Robinson

I thought Art Good was nuts. There, on the Sunday morning lineup of the 2001 JazzTrax Catalina Island Festival was this band, “Action Figure Party." “Action Figure Party?!"The band consists of twentysomething musicians from bands like “Garbage," “Buck Cherry," “Incubus," and “Beck." One of the musicians' names is “Flea." Another goes by “Yogi," and a third, with the more-promising sounding name of Sean Lennon, plays... umm... turntable??While some of my friends quietly decided that maybe they ...
