About Me
My Jazz Story
I love jazz because...I remember it from my early childhood and realized as an adult how valuable it is and how refreshing the newer jazz artists are.
I was first exposed to jazz... as a child I heard jazz on jute box at my fathers club. But the bug hit around age 30 when I discovered WDCB radio near Chicago and I borrowed some jazz LP's from a work associate. The bug hasn't left yet after 35 plus years.
I met [musician name]...
The best show I ever attended was... the great late(s) Dave Brubeck and Nancy Wilson. Both at Ravenna Park Theater.
The first jazz record I bought was... likely one from Pat Matheny or Dave Sanborn or a Windham Hill Sampler.
My advice to new listeners... The jazz genre has been around for nearly one hundred years. There is a lot to explore by era and by niche. Explore what appeals to you now and a lot more enjoyment will follow naturally.
In MHO the early 50's to late 60's produced some of the best classical jazz artists and best jazz music recordings. The recording quality and LP pressing quality of many of them sound amazing on today's improved equipment.
