Rok Zalokar is a pianist and composer from Slovenia, currently living and studying in Rotterdam. He's leading his trio that combines influences from jazz, rock and classical music, it blends everything from powerful rock grooves to slow lyrical soundscapes. Group plays original compositions with strong emphasis on mood and it's development, spiced up with improvisation. Since it's beginning in fall of 2010, trio has been developing personal sound and compositions with frequent live shows. In the spring of 2013 part of this wide repertoire got documented. Debut record album "Vol. 1" was released in June 2013 on label ZARŠ. Trio continued to develop it's sound and released "Vol. 2" in July 2016. Last year has been very successful for the trio - winning the Erasmus jazz prize and last summer they got a chance to play at the North Sea Jazz festival.
Besides his trio he is a member of “Kukushai”, an experimental pop group with original music, flirting with jazz, avant-garde, even rock and punk. But all this doesn’t hold him back to look back on his roots – he is playing and singing modern arrangements of Slovenian folk songs with “Dvojina”.
