Randy Buckner

I love teaching guitar and performing live music. To begin with,I picked up the guitar in 1973. At the age of 39, I enrolled at Middle Tennessee State University and earned 64 credit hours toward a degree in jazz studies. While attending MTSU, I studied jazz improvisation with Don Aliquo, Bruce Dudley, and Jamey Simmons. I also studied guitar with Paul Abrams and Roger Hudson. Master classes I attended were conducted by Herb Ellis, Mundell Lowe, Gene Bertoncini, Benny Golson, Eddie Daniels, and Phil Woods. Currently, I perform with the classic-rock group “Pat Pending.” In the past, I have performed with various swing and country bands, as well as a performance with Merle Travis. Besides my family, there is nothing I love more than the guitar and music. I am as fascinated with the guitar now as I was at the age of 9. For that reason, I tailor my lessons to the personality of the person taking the lesson. On any given day I will teach note reading to a beginner, show someone how to play like Merle Travis, or decipher Van Halen's tapping technique from "Eruption." In my lessons, I try to create the same level of excitement with my students that I had as a youngster.
