Earlier today we reported that Soundcloud has reached a deal with Sony Music Entertainment. Now it's official. Alongside deals with WMG, UMG and Merlin, the agreement paves the way for a Soundcloud paid subscription service later this year. On Friday, digital distributor The Orchard reported financial results for the quarter that ended March 31st. It was the first quarter reported since a round of layoffs and cost reductions.
Revenue increased 16% to $17.8M in the quarter $15.3 million in the first quarter of 2009.

Dimensional Associates has once again raised its bid to purchase digital distributor The Orchard and take the company private. Dimensional which is the private equity arm of JDS Capital and also owns eMusic, is alrady The Orchard's majority stock holder.
