Soyr

Søyr (with a ø) was an ensemble that, over a period of 30 years, engaged over 50 musicians and 2 poets under the leadership of Torgrim Sollid. They didn't all play at the same time, of course. Søyr comprised 13 people at the most and 5 at the least, and appeared in various guises.

It started as a project focused on folk music from Østerdalen, Norway, but soon evolved into a more "contemporary music oriented" ensemble. Or, as Johs Bergh wrote in the Great Norwegian Encyclopedia: "Søyr is a Norwegian jazz ensemble known for a continuously experimental profile."
