Joe Satriani Bass Sideman & Mermen Co-Founder Allen Whitman Releases 4th Ambient Soundtrack "The Eternal City'

Allen Whitman, former bassist with legendary virtuoso guitarist Joe Satriani and co-founder of the influential San Francisco-based instrumental surf-rock trio The Mermen, announces the digital-only release (through label Squeakey Studios) of his 4th soundtrack/ambient travel log album The Eternal City. The album, his 4th in a series, continues the artist’s predilection for incorporating acoustic guitar-driven sonic environments with samples and synths—and this time out forwarding the in-your-face pace of that Grande Dame of cities, Rome. The sounds, making use of ...

"The music on Volume II is a continuation of music I began to write after my move to Woodstock. There is something in that area for me (for a lot of people) of a deep timelessness, where all is not comfortable, but rich in experience all the same. I was frequently moved to write songs that made me feel as if I was on a train in the middle of the night not knowing where I was being taken, or ...

Jimmy Smith Converts to the Ambient Sound of Accordions

Los Angeles - The jazz world was taken aback today at the announcement by Jimmy Smith's management that Mr. Smith has decided to shift his focus from the Hammond B-3 Organ to the Accordion. According to Stan “The Man" Goldblatt, his long-time manager, Mr. Smith has recently discovered the joy of putting that heavy accordion over his chest and letting the music wail from within its bellows. “But it doesn't end there," adds Goldblatt. “Jimmy has renounced hard-bop styled jazz ...
