Enrique Thompson
Enrique Thompson is an Argentinian saxophonist, EWI performer, composer, and improvisation artist known for his versatility across various musical genres. He has led and performed with ensembles spanning orchestras, chamber music, jazz groups, blues, rock, Latin American music, tango, saxophone quartets, African, electronic, and experimental music. His compositions extend to film scores, theater pieces, and multidisciplinary projects throughout Latin America and Europe.
Thompson's formal education includes classical saxophone studies at La Plata’s Conservatory and composition at La Plata National University in Argentina. He has further honed his craft through courses and private lessons with esteemed musicians such as Michael Brecker, Bob Mintzer, Carlos "Mono" Fontana, Paquito D’Rivera, Carlos Michelini, and Anibal Arias.
Believing in the integration of art and life, Thompson has enriched his artistic perspective by exploring philosophy, psychology, languages, history, and politics. Currently residing in Vienna, Austria, and Fuerteventura, Canary Islands, Spain, he contributes his talents to groups like Traspié Electro Tango, Revirado Project, TM Group, and Tango meets Jazz. His collaborations have led him to perform across Europe, including an invitation by Paquito D’Rivera to close the Punta del Este International Jazz Fest. In Vienna, he co-founded Artruism, an association dedicated to promoting and supporting artistic and cultural production, and established the label ARTRUISM RECORDS.
In October 2024, Thompson and Revirado Project released the album "Song for Someone," showcasing a jazz-influenced and lyrical style with elements of classical and electroacoustic music. The album features international musicians such as Bryan Corbett (trumpet), Daniel Schwarzwald (piano), Yonatan Levi (double bass), and Ancor Miranda (drums). The release was celebrated with a live concert and recording at the Palacio de Congresos de Fuerteventura.
Thompson's discography includes works like "Ciclos" (2021), "Vuelta de Página" (2018), "Revirado Version Fuerteventura" (2020), "Tango Meets Jazz" (2014), "Pasaje" (2014), "Répétition" (2014), and "Other Faces" (2014). These albums reflect his diverse musical explorations and are available on platforms such as Bandcamp, Spotify, Apple Music, and SoundCloud.
In 2024, Thompson organized the "Ruta del Jazz" and "EcoJazz" a series of jazz events in Fuerteventura, Canary Islands, featuring performances by local and international artists.
Thompson continues to engage audiences worldwide with his innovative compositions and performances, contributing significantly to the global music scene.
