Jay Vosk

Ever since I was a high school student on Long Island, I've had a keen interest in composing music. I went on to earn my BM degree in Composition at the Eastman School of Music and my MM degree in Composition at the University of Michigan.

Since 1980 I've resided in Tucson, Arizona where I am a part-time performer/educator and a full-time composer. In 1996, I was the recipient of the Tucson/ Pima Arts Council Composer's Fellowship. My portfolio includes nearly 75 works for a variety of media. These include commissions from the Tucson Symphony Orchestra, Contrabass virtuoso Bertram Turetzsky, Native American Flutist Carlos Nakai and the Arizona Repertory Singers. In addition, I was recently chosen to write a commissioned chamber piece for members of the National Symphony Orchestra as part of their Composer Residency Commissioning Project. This past year my composition, Notturno for Soprano Saxophone and Piano was issued on an AUR CD.

My interests also include collaborative pieces with artists of other disciplines. These include music for dance, theater and video. Currently, I teach courses on Jewish Music at the University of Arizona and Music Appreciation at Pima Community College.
