STUDNITZKY

STUDNITZKY has always been a traveller between the realms of jazz, classical and electronic music and has succeeded in combining virtuoso yet unassuming piano playing with his unique vocal-sounding trumpet style. Studnitzky has created his own distinct style, successfully finding a balance between being contemporary yet indefinably timeless. His inimitable music is detailed, minimalistic and transparent, yet it displays an emotional depth which is uniquely personal. With “MEMENTO – orchestral experience” he combines his Jazz trio with string quartets or big orchestras.

KY is the name of Studnitzky’s multifaceted music project which is minimalistic yet full of layers and diverse sounds. It takes its aesthetic influences from electronic music and is performed by a scaled-down instrumental ensemble.

Recently he also started playing solo shows, using a piano, his trumpet and selected electronics.

He has performed and recorded with names such as Nils Landgren’s Funk Unit, Jazzanova, Mezzoforte and Wolfgang Haffner, Nightmares On Wax, Moritz von Oswald, Mezzoforte and Dominic Miller.

In 2012 he founded Contemplate, his own record label. In 2014 he initiated the XJAZZ Festival Berlin and took charge as its musical director. It immediately became Berlin’s largest jazz festival and launched international editions as well. Since 2014 Sebastian Studnitzky has been a professor for Jazz trumpet at the Dresden University of Music and since 2017 at Jazz Institute Berlin as well. In 2019 he launched also a new record label under the XJAZZ brand, called XJAZZ Music.
