Jimmy Zito
Jimmy Zito was an American jazz trumpeter born on December 1, 1928, in Chicago, Illinois. He grew up in a musical family and began playing the trumpet at a young age.
Zito started his professional career in the 1940s, playing with various big bands, including those led by Ted Fio Rito, Woody Herman, Benny Goodman, and Harry James. He also performed with the NBC Symphony Orchestra under the direction of Arturo Toscanini.
In the 1950s, Zito moved to California and began working as a studio musician in Los Angeles. He played on numerous recordings for film and television soundtracks, as well as for popular artists such as Frank Sinatra, Elvis Presley, and Nat King Cole.
Zito continued to perform and record throughout his career, and he also taught music at the University of Southern California. He was known for his virtuosity on the trumpet, as well as his versatility in playing different styles of music.
Jimmy Zito passed away on September 16, 1985, in Los Angeles, California, at the age of 56. He left behind a legacy as one of the most talented and respected trumpet players of his time.
