Josie Niemira

Josie Cox Niemira began her professional singing career at Hickman High School in 1992 in Columbia, Missouri when she was selected as a soloist for a chamber concert tour throughout Spain during the World’s Fair in Barcelona. This led to a music scholarship at University of Missouri, Columbia, where she studied under Marilin Niska, from the NYC Metropolitan Opera during her freshman year. She was featured as a soloist for the university’s vocal jazz group "Hitt Street Harmony“ for 2 years and performed with the University Singers at the ACDA Convention in Washington D.C.’s Kennedy Center in 1995. Josie was one of the original members of Del Alma. She later moved on to become lead vocalist of the Mid-Missouri Rock group “Diversion”, and performed throughout mid-Missouri for 2 years. She left “Diversion” in 1996 to participate in the MU in Mexico Exchange program at the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México in Mexico City. Upon returning she changed her major to Latin American Studies, graduating in 1997. Josie served on active duty in the Army Reserves in Bosnia-Herzegovina, and in Honduras. Since moving to St. Louis, she has played a leading role in musical mystery dinner theater shows (particularly 1940's jazz), and participates in the music ministry at her church.
