Maiara Moraes

Maiara Moraes is a flutist, composer and teacher from the south of Brazil, based in São Paulo since 2012. With refined technique on her instrument, she moves through different forms of popular music, participating in numerous formations such as choro, Brazilian instrumental music, Latin American music, jazz , forró and world music.

She graduated in popular flute at the Tatuí Conservatory and at the São Paulo School of Music, and carried out master's research on the flutist Copinha at UNICAMP, under the guidance of Prof. Dr. Antonio Rafael dos Santos. Part of his training took place in Buenos Aires, where he lived for two years and studied tango and Latin American folklore with renowned Argentine musicians.

In 2018, she released her first solo album "nós", accompanied by Salomão Soares (piano), Marcos Paiva (double bass) and Pedro Henning (drums). In the repertoire, a tribute to contemporary flutists through their compositions.

In 2019, he released his second album on the Blaxtream label - Cabeça de Vento -, this one with only original compositions, accompanied by Josué dos Santos (saxophones), Guilherme Ribeiro (piano), Igor Pimenta (double bass), Pedro Henning (drums) and appearances by Paula Mirhan (voice) and Gaia Wilmer (saxophone).

She participates in important groups on the São Paulo music scene such as Orquestra Mundana Refugi, Conjunto João Rubinato, Gaia Wilmer Sexteto and Grupo Qu4rtzo. Since 2022 he has maintained a duo with the pianist from Minas Gerais Luísa Miter with whom he released the EP "Ecoar" in October 2023.

She was a finalist in two composition competitions: with "Chumba no Choro" she was among the 10 finalists of the competition "É no choro que eu vou" (Curitiba/PR - 2020) and with "Peixe-boi" (partnership with Rogerio Santos) was among the 10 finalists at the Brazilian Song Festival (São Paulo/SP - 2020). She was also a finalist for the 2021 Music Professionals Award, in the arranger category.

She has been a flute teacher since 2003 and has held several Brazilian popular flute courses and workshops in several Brazilian cities and online courses. He gave classes at the Ibiapaba Music Festival (CE) in 2019 and also taught a wind workshop at EEMAN in João Pessoa/PB and in 2020 he taught a masterclass at FIMUCA (UFRN). She has been invited to round tables on the topic by several educational institutions such as UFJF and UFMG. Since 2022, she has been a teacher of transverse flute and theoretical subjects at the Escola de Música do Parque Ibirapuera (SP), with musical direction by Nailor Azevedo "Proveta".
