Leonid Alekseyevich Morozov

Leonid Morozov is a 5th generation musician from Kursk, Russia. He started out by playing harmonica on the streets of Moscow at the age of 9 to earn lunch money. Later Leonid picked up the guitar after hearing blues masters like Mississippi Fred McDowell, B.B. King and others. and fell in love with with jazz after hearing Lester Young. First portion of Leonid’s career was spent in Russia where he often played with his first mentor and biggest influence - his grandad pianist Leonid Vintskevich. Before coming to the US Leonid successfully established himself on the Russian jazz scene: participated multiple times in the “Jazz Province” Festival (years 2014,2015,2016 and 2017), “Lundstrem-fest-100”. Led his own gigs in the top tier Moscow jazz clubs like “Esse”, “Kozlov Club”, “B.B. King club” as well as played as a side man with famous Russian and European jazz musicians like Aleksei Kuznetsov, Lembit Saarsalu, Nick Vintskevich and others. Now after graduating from SUNY Purchase Conservatory of music (class of 2021) Leonid is making his way into the New York jazz scene playing regularly in clubs, restaurants and other venues around the city.

The special guest of the concert was the representative of the Vintskevich jazz dynasty Leonid Junior. “At the age of 16, this is a well-trained jazz musician who plays the guitar, harmonica, sings, and understands the style of traditional jazz well,” said Kirill Moshkov.

"The duet of Josh Smith and Leonid Junior brought a bright tone to the jazz palette of the evening. The famous guitarist and vocalist was accompanied on the Voronezh stage by the grandson of the founder of Jazz Province, 15-year-old Leonid Vintskevich. Such a soulful blues, performed on the guitar and harmonica, many of the fans of improvisational music heard for the first time."
