Leléka
LELÉKA – is a Berlin-based Ukrainian folk-jazz quartet, showcasing the highly distinctive style they’ve been mesmerizing audiences with since more than 7 years. Rooted in jazz, their music reaches beyond the borders of the genre, embracing singer Viktoria Leléka’s Ukrainian roots and the band’s talent for improvisational freedom. LELÉKA, translating to ‘stork’ in English and coincidentally being the Ukrainian folk symbol of love, good fortune and family happiness, consists of an international lineup of four musicians that found each other in Berlin. After being nominated as a “Band of the Year” by German Jazz Award 2022 and their performances at the Jazzahead 2022, renowned German journalist Sebastian Scotney wrote that: “Her two performances have stayed in a lot of people´s minds. People remember her astonishing capacity to bring audiences in, and to make time stand completely still. LELÉKA needs to be heard and seen live”
LELÉKA was founded by the Ukrainian singer and composer Viktoria Leléka in spring 2016 in Berlin. Already in the first years the band was awarded with renowned prizes such as: 1st place at the European Jazz Award Burghausen 2018, 1st place at the Creole Global Music Contest 2017, 2nd place at the Munich Jazz Price 2019 and so occupied their well considered place within the borderline-smashing genre of chamber jazz and Ukrainian folk music. A number of tours, festivals and concerts in Germany, Ukraine, Sweden, Poland, Austria, Chech Republic etc. and their first self produced EPs made their fan base grow. LELÉKA also wrote and produced the title soundtrack for the popular Ukrainian historical series “There will be humans” and was included into the book “111 reasons to love jazz” by Ralf Dombrowski. LELÉKA works together with the GLM Music Label and with the Booking agency Musszo since 2021. Their Album “Sonce u Serci” (Sun in your heart) got them nominated as “Band of the year 2022” by the German Jazz Award (Deutscher Jazzpreis). LELÉKA played over 50 concerts in 2022 and became one of the artists that represents Ukrainian culture in Germany and Europe.

While this Berlin-based quartet is half steeped in the modern European jazz world, the other half of their sound comes from namesake Viktoria Leléka's roots in Ukrainian folk. The blend can be classy, dramatic, thoughtful, quietly hopeful... or in the case of this little romp, bright as sunrise. Some jaunty rolling piano hooks the ear and her dreamy soprano charmingly seals the deal. ...
