Kyle Matsuda

Kyle Matsuda, 16, piano, will be a junior in the fall at Hawaii Preparatory Academy in his hometown of Kamuela, HI. He has studied jazz and classical piano privately for 8 years. His jazz influences include Miles Davis, John Coltrane, Bill Evans and many more. He has studied with Randy Porter in Portland, OR and has attended the Stanford Jazz Workshop three times. At the 2009 Stanford Jazz Residency, Kyle was selected to the top combo under the direction of Ray Drummond, which gave him the opportunity to play with some of the most outstanding young musicians in the nation. He was also selected for the 2010 Brubeck Institute Summer Jazz Colony, a one-week full-scholarship jazz performance workshop. In addition to jazz, Kyle is studying classical piano with teacher Alex Czerny and was awarded a full scholarship to the 2010 Hawaii Performing Arts Festival to study piano technique with Artistic Director Val Underwood.
