Jory Tindall

Jory Tindall is a creative professional currently based in Seattle, Washington, breaking down the boundaries in both creative improvised music and forward-thinking visual design. He seeks to not only pay homage to past creators through a wide palette of genre and style influences, but to advance well- loved repertoire of the past into the music and creative design of the future. This level of diverse creativity has provided Mr. Tindall with an exceeding level of comprehensive skills and knowledge, assisting in the integration and dissemination of multiple skill sets across a vast platform of culture and influence.

Jory grew up in a suburb of Seattle Washington in the 90’s, enjoying the likes of Blink 182, Lil’ Bow Wow, Ludacris, Sum 41, and others before turning religiously to jazz and improvised music, becoming enamored with artists like Wayne Shorter, Herbie Hancock, Lennie Tristano, Freddie Hubbard, and Sonny Stitt. While in the midst of his career at Mountlake Terrace High School, he fell in love with jazz and the creative improvisation surrounding jazz culture. Throughout this educational period Jory surrounded himself with local heros, educators, and musicians that continue to shape his philosophy and creative outlook. These included Mark Taylor, Jay Thomas, Steve Treseler, Dawn Clement, Thomas Marriott, David Marriott, and many others before continuing on to study jazz at the University of Northern Colorado (UNC) in Greeley, Colorado.

While attending UNC, Jory continued to find his creative voice while collaborating with students, professors, and other highly creative minds, often concurrently participating in and leading ensembles showcasing drastically differing musical styles. This involvement included, but was not limited to avant- garde improvisation, traditional jazz applications, and classical chamber ensembles. These widely varying styles led Jory to many (sometimes too many) influences and studies, producing a palette of musicianship and versatility with the ability to fill any role with style and competence. In his final years at UNC Jory was bestowed numerous awards, including two from the prestigious Downbeat Magazine Student Music Awards; one for Outstanding Undergraduate Alto Saxophonist, the other for Most Outstanding University Large Ensemble (Big Band) for his role as lead alto saxophone in UNC’s Lab Band I.

Around the end of his career at UNC Jory gained interest in design and the graphic arts; most notably web design, front-end web development, and graphic design. Being involved in the local music scene provided numerous opportunities for partnering with local musicians and artists on promotional projects and branding proposals, encouraging Jory to learn modern design skills by experimenting in the real world without a formal education.
