Jørgen Bjelkerud

Norwegian born Jørgen Bjelkerud, has excelled from the earliest age as trombonist and composer in the jazz and improvised music genre. He has performed extensively throughout Norway, Europe, South Africa and India, with bands such as When I Return, Evidence, Trondheim Jazz Orchestra, Dafnie, Galumphing Duo, OJKOS and Cosmic Swing Orchestra. Bjelkerud is regarded as one of the new voices on the Norwegian jazz scene performing in a variety of musical styles with a profound technical craftsmanship on his instrument.

Aside from playing jazz music Bjelkerud also emphasizes the importance of borrowing musical knowledge from the world and classical music tradition both in an instrumental technique aspect and the language and theory of for instance Indian Classical music and composers such as Messiaen, Threadgill and Lehman.

Amalie Dahl's Dafnie EXTENDED: Live at Moldejazz

Read "Live at Moldejazz" reviewed by Hrayr Attarian

Over the course of a mere five years, Danish saxophonist Amalie Dahl has garnered well-deserved praise as a bandleader, improviser, and composer. Sol Léna-Schroll (alto saxophone and clarinet) is Threadgill, Jørgen Bjelkerud (trombone) is Jose Davila, Joel Ring ...
