Infantree
Having three distinct leaders is both the strength and the challenge for the band, so the 2008 addition of drummer Jordan Avesar provided not only a serious backbeat, but also a psychological glue.
Alex, Matt and Donald began playing guitar as young boys, but naturally picked up other disciplines with no instruction. They were songwriters early on, too. There’s a shifting, track to track, from one writer/lead singer to the next, and who plays which of nearly a dozen instruments. Yet, there’s a cohesive, rooted sound, to Infantree that completely belies their youth. It has to do with the personal, but also universal, emotion behind the lyrics, the worldly range of artistic influences and the jaw-dropping musicianship.
Niko Bolas (Neil Young, Warren Zevon, Melissa Etheridge), producer of Infantree’s new EP Food for Thought said of Jordan, “He’s an 18 year old Jim Keltner.”
2009/2010 has been quite notable for the band, their song, “Overflowin’” from the self-released Tree-P has received spins on KCRW’s prestigious Morning Becomes Eclectic, the band opened shows for Ariel Pink's Haunted Graffiti, Portugal the Man and Daniel Lanois’ Black Dub performed at Outside Lands in San Francisco, the Bridge School Benefit concert and the recent SXSW Music Conference. The band also managed to play more than 200 shows on Santa Monica’s 3rd Street Promenade; one of which was filmed for GorillAcoustic.com.
With their debut Vapor Records EP, Infantree will whet music lovers appetite with a mesmerizing platter of sensory candy; carefully selected morsels to contemplatively ingest underneath their shady branches. So dig in, climb up and experience a different view of what’s around you.
