Eric Zabala is a general and jazz percussionist located in St Petersburg, Florida. While jazz mallets are his focus, he is trained and experienced in orchestral percussion, drum set, bass guitar, guitar, and trumpet as well. Eric attended Pacific Lutheran University in Tacoma, WA where he graduated summa cum laude with a Bachelor’s in Percussion Performance under Dr. Miho Takekawa. He flourished as an orchestral percussionist, winning the Student Soloist competition as a sophomore and the PASIC Ludwig Industries Scholarship as a junior. However, it wasn't until his senior year when he began his focus on jazz vibraphone.
Eric posts regularly online on multiple platforms, including YouTube, Instagram, TikTok, and SoundCloud. Check out his Transcription Tuesday series on Instagram, where he shares and plays along with a transcription every Tuesday!
Eric is enjoying bringing his vibes (both literally and figuratively) to various jams around the St Pete/Tampa area and is interested in playing in various styles and groups. While he is proficient in straight-ahead playing, Eric is also interested in fusions between jazz and rock, RnB, and hip-hop.
