Dave Noland
Born and raised in San Angelo, TX, Dave naturally drifted towards the sound of the saxophone through the encouragement of friends, family, local bands, and teachers. After studying for two very productive years at the University of North Texas, he eventually went on to complete a degree in jazz studies and performance from William Paterson University where he studied with Gary Smulyan, Don Braden, and Armen Donelian. With a desire to continue his education in music, he completed a master’s degree in music as a graduate assistant from New Jersey City University where he studied with Ed Joffe, Tim Ries, Joel Weiskopf, Bill Kirchner, Andy Eulau, and Tim Horner.
Dave has toured Peru with the Hector Morales Jazz Trio and Japan with the Broadway production of 42nd Street. He was a two year member of Joe Elefante’s big band, which was featured on ABC News Nightline. Between October 2004 and July of 2005, Dave performed and recorded a cast album with the hit musical Disney’s On the Record in which he played a key role as one of the studio musicians on stage with the cast as well as a featured soloist. He is currently playing with The Jose Rodriguez latin ensemble, Music by Pulse Productions, and Afrodita.
Most notably, Dave has recently recorded his first album as a leader (Nomad) which not only features him leading a notable rhythm section, but also includes all of his own arrangements of various jazz standards and originals. Look for this album to be released in August, 2006.
He has gone on to join the faculty at New Jersey City University and currently lives in New York City, where he freelances on a regular basis.
