Curtis Wingfield

Curtis Wingfield is a drummer and composer based in Charlotte, NC. His latest singles, "Adama" and "Blues for Chantilly", featuring Charlie Hunter and Emanuel Wynter, can be heard on Spotify.

Curtis received his first drum kit for Christmas at age 3. At age 4, he started studying piano and continued that until age 11, competing in national classical piano competitions. At age 11, he began studying snare drum in school band and continued through high school in concert and marching bands, the last two years of which, he served as drumline captain. He then continued his music education as a percussion performance major at East Carolina University, where he also concentrated on jazz composition.

In 1999, Curtis moved to Charlotte, NC and that’s when his career as an in-demand drummer started. Playing in several different bands at any given time period. He also began periodically touring nationally with Bellyfull, Gonzilla (whose alumni include Allan Holdsworth, Gary Husband, and Kai Eckhardt), and The Afromotive (during which he had features in both DRUM! and Modern Drummer magazines). During this time, Curtis was also a successful, in-demand, private drum teacher.

In 2009, Curtis joined Hipshack, a highly sought after dance/party band, averaging 65-70 private events per year until he left to join 20 Ride and Southside Station in the fall of 2016. He has been busy traveling the country with these two bands since, averaging 230 gigs per year between them and other freelance gigs.
