Charlie Moon

Acclaimed as Ireland's "rising star" of jazz by The Irish Times, Charlie Moon stands out as a singular voice in the realms of cool jazz, blues, and soul jazz. Hailed by the BBC as “A very gifted young vocalist and guitarist” Moon has carved a niche for himself with a melodic guitar style that seamlessly blends rhythmically swinging bebop and blues.

Born into a musical family, Moon inherited his passion from his father, Nigel Mooney, dubbed “Ireland’s King of the Blues,” and began honing his craft early. His formative years were shaped by exposure to iconic performances by jazz greats like Jimmy Smith, Ahmad Jamal, George Benson, Brad Mehldau, and Wayne Shorter. At just 13, Moon had the privilege of a one-on-one lesson with legendary guitarist Larry Coryell who his father played with regularly, igniting his commitment to jazz.

He later pursued advanced jazz studies in Dublin and the Netherlands, working with world-class musicians and educators, including Seamus Blake, Gregory Hutchinson, Lionel Loueke, Jeff Ballard, Gilad Hekselman, Adam Rogers, Nir Felder, and Yotam Silberstein. These experiences refined his skills and shaped his distinct style, blending bebop, blues, and contemporary influences into his guitar playing and vocal performances.

In a significant milestone in 2021, Charlie Moon signed with New York-based jazz label Dot-Time Records to release his debut album, Patchwork. Joining the ranks of celebrated artists like Dave Liebman and Catherine Russell.

In 2024, Moon released his second album, Charlie Moon Sings & Plays, a solo voice-and-guitar record and a tribute to Chet Baker showcasing his intimate and unique take on jazz standards. Charlie has performed alongside internationally renowned musicians, including guitarist Jocelyn Gould, trumpeter Linley Hamilton MBE, saxophonist Scott Hamilton (Benny Goodman), pianist Bruce Barth (Tony Bennett), drummer Stephen Keogh (Bill Charlap), and bassist Mark Hodgson (Cedar Walton).

For its debut album, the trio welcomes tenor saxophonist Michael Buckley on a set split equally between original tunes and covers. Drawing inspiration from the jazz organ trios' ...
