Augusto Mancinelli

Augusto Mancinelli, guitarist and composer, was born in Osimo, in the province of Ancona (1953-2008).

After studying jazz guitar, electronic music, classical guitar, experimental composition and analysis, he began performing in various formations and collaborated with prestigious soloists: Lee Konitz, Curtis Fuller, Bob Berg, Sam Rivers, Jimmy Owens. Having joined AREA alongside Ares Tavolazzi and Giulio Capiozzo, he moved to Milan in 1984 where he began a long collaboration with trumpeter Enrico Rava. Meanwhile he participates in the most important Italian and European festivals from Umbria Jazz to Brussels, Geneva, Calais, Annecy.

In 1986 he worked with Gil Evans and with the RAI orchestra in Rome. Collaborations with Tony Oxley, Mario Arcari, Tiziana Ghiglioni will follow. In August 1999 he played as a soloist with the A. Toscanini orchestra of Parma directed by M. Daniele Callegari in the concert “2 AGOSTOˮ, held in Bologna in Piazza Maggiore and broadcast on RAI 3. In 2000 he played alongside trumpeter Franco Ambrosetti for a cycle of television broadcasts for Network 1 of Swiss Television. He later performed with Riccardo Luppi, Tiziano Tononi, Paolo Ghetti and often with Franco Cerri in trio or quartet.

Since 1985 he has carried out an intense teaching activity, from jazz seminars in Pistoia to jazz teaching in the Conservatories of Potenza, Cosenza, Parma, Rovigo, Fermo. He has released four albums and a collection of didactic studies for two guitars with Ambrogio De Palma for Eridania. His name appears, as a soloist, in the «Penguin guide to jazz».
