Swedish drummer August Glännestrand plays on the Trondheim and Oslo jazz scenes. He met several of his future collaborators at the Jazz Department of NTNU in Trondheim, where he studied between 2018 and 2021.

Glännestrand plays drums in the Liv Andrea Hauge Trio, with pianist Liv Andrea Hauge and bassist Georgia Wartel Collins. The trio toured Slovenia, Hungary, Romania and the Netherlands, and was selected for the official jazzahead! 2024 showcase. Their album "Ville Blomster" was released on the Norwegian label Hubro, and the trio won the 3rd EJN Zenith Award for emerging artists in 2024, an initiative of the Europe Jazz Network held in collaboration with the 12 Points Festival. A further album, "Døgnville," followed on Hubro in September 2025.

He also plays in Leirblaa, a quartet with vocalist Jakob Nordli Leirvik, reedist Jenny Frøysa and vibraphonist Amund Storløkken Åse, whose Norwegian-language debut "Sirkel" appeared in 2022, and in the Aksel Rønning Trio with saxophonist Aksel Rønning and bassist Eskild Okkenhaug, formed at Trondheim's Jazzlinja and heard on "ART" (2021) and "ACCIDENTS" (2026, Lur Records).

Other credits include drums and drum machine on pianist Alex Ventling's "Wavemakers" (2025), with violinist Tuva Halse and vibraphonist Amund Stenøien, and on Emil Storløkken Åse's PHØNIX project, on "Electric Forest" (2022) and "Intergalloptic Roundtrip" (2024).

Awards

The Liv Andrea Hauge trio won the 3rd EJN Zenith Award for emerging artists in 2024.

Some musicians toil for years to deliver a debut album, perhaps because composing does not come easily. A lack of confidence, or simply the financial burden of recording can also be inhibitors.
