Athalie de Koning

Athalie de Koning is an international singer with a passion for Jazz. She was born in the Netherlands, but lived in Thailand, Malaysia, and England alternately over the years. Athalie holds a Bachelor of Education in Music from the Utrecht Conservatoire and a Master of Education in Arts from the Utrecht School of the Arts.

Athalie currently lives in Bangkok, Thailand, where she works as a singer, voice-over artist, and choir master. She sings at The Glaz Bar, Plaza Athénée Hotel, every Friday and Saturday evening from 19:00-23:00. Together with her regular pianist, Paul Bebington, she just rounded off a season at The Continent Hotel as the Jazz Duo “Ath & Paul.” The duo also performed together in Hong Kong at the People's Fringe Festival - Music Fairground in November 2013. Athalie has brought her jazzy style to the Royal Dutch Embassy, the British Club, Fubar, the Chatrium Hotel, and the Siam Kempinski Hotel, among other places.

As a voice-over artist, Athalie sings jingles and records scripts for commercials, web-based trainings, internet presentations, and business profiles. She has been the voice of many different brands such as Sizzler, LEGO, Betagen, American Express, Fujitsu, Mettler-Toledo, US Visa Information services, Thailand Cultural Center, and Walmart, to name a few. After teaching Voice at Mahidol University for two years, Athalie accepted the position of Choir Master with Opera Siam in October 2012.

In the past, Athalie worked as a freelance singer in the Netherlands, appearing with different bands as a Jazz soloist and forming a Close Harmony a cappella group in 2008. During this time, she was also a Voice and Expression teacher at the Utrecht Centre of the Arts and conducted three choirs in styles ranging from Baroque choir works to pop classics. As a lyricist, she writes and performs many of her own Jazz songs, and has been commissioned to compose music for several children’s musicals, graduations, weddings, and other events. Her recently launched band Jazziam released its first single in September of 2013 and continues to publish new music on a regular basis.
