Arina Bagaryakova

Bagarisha, or Arina, is a Russian-born alternative jazz musician making waves in the US.

In her music, Bagarisha explores the boundaries of musical genres, blending ethereal vocals with a unique Russian twist influenced by nostalgic Soviet melodies. Bagarisha’s music is inspired by endless contrasts: everyday melancholy and joy, dreams and reality, good and evil.

Beyond music, Arina writes poetry in various forms — philosophical notes, surrealistic fantasies, questioning monologues, repeating mantras. Drawing from old cartoons with their peculiar, psychedelic, and timeless aesthetics, as well as visual art, Arina paints through her music.

At the heart of Bagarisha's artistic expression is the concept of "Svet" or Divine Light, noting that Light comes both from the Sun and from the Moon and encouraging her listeners to tune into their inner Light and act with compassion. This philosophy echoes from her collaborations with her Berklee’s mentors, distinguished musicians and social activists, including Terri Lyne Carrington, Danilo Perez, John Patitucci, Kris Davis, Joe Lovano.

Arina, a full scholarship recipient from Berklee College of Music, appeared on "The Voice" and the Junior Eurovision stage. In 2021 she performed at the JEN Conference with John Patitucci and Kris Davis. Her role as a selected composer for Joana Vasconcelos Installation ‘Valkyrie’ At MAAM marked a significant moment.

Most recently, she engaged in a month-long  SOF Music Residency in Tanger, Morocco, collaborating with 577 Records. Looking ahead to 2024, Arina anticipates the release of her debut album, SVET, promising an exciting collaboration featuring turntablist and sound chemist Val Jeanty. Already, two singles, "Otgoloksi" and "Алиса," are making waves on all major platforms.

“Is it Jazz? Is it Broadway? Is it Pop?... Arina's music is strange, but in the most beautiful way. This person has a lovely quirkiness, craziness, whimsical thing to her that is really charming. She's just waiting for the bigger stage. She's gonna go nuts!” - Alain Mallet
